Susan's Heart for the Arts
02/01/08
Arts from the Heart, a local nonprofit organization that provides cultural art experiences to Wimberley area students, has asked Susan to assist as Art Education Coordinator. Susan will assist with afternoon workshops, one day a week, for elementary and middle school students during February and March. The program, which started in response to school district budget cutbacks, offers classes in visual arts, music, poetry, dance and drama. Students participate free of charge; all efforts are sustained through donations and special fundraising events. The program, now entering its 10th year, also is the fortunate recipient of the University of Texas Performing Arts Outreach Program, which provides complimentary tickets and transportation to major cultural art events that otherwise would be too expensive for many children to attend.

Dexter was elected president of the board of directors for the Flagstaff Independent Business Alliance (FIBA). Dexter has been a part of FIBA since it was launched in July 2006 with less than 10 members. FIBA has remained active throughout its first one and a half years, and has grown to more than 60 members. FIBA is part of a growing national movement of communities rallying to support their independent businesses and build a stronger culture of support for locally owned businesses.
